2018-2019 CBA “Reopener” Ratification Vote

The UFF-UWF and UWF-BOT teams reached tentative agreements on May 31 on all remaining articles under discussion for the 2018-2019 “reopener” CBA negotiations and have now scheduled a ratification vote for Monday, June 11.  The contract does not become official until it is ratified by both the UWF in-unit faculty and the UWF-BOT.  The UFF-UWF bargaining team fully supports the ratification of the contract.  Ratification documents are included below.

The 2018-2019 reopener contract reflects the following contract items:

Article 25: Salaries

  • Includes new language for a 5% non-recurring wage action (bonus) to be distributed in June 2018 and a cost-of-living increase connected to the Consumer Price Index to be distributed in March 2020.  In both of these scenarios, the language and structure is the same as the previous versions of these increases, except that the bargaining teams have struck the language exempting faculty who have tendered a resignation as being ineligible for the increases.  Simply, a faculty member who initiates the paperwork for the retirement process prior to the distribution of these increases will still be eligible for the increases as long as he or she is still employed by UWF when the increases are distributed.

Article 26: Benefits

  • Increases the Phased Retirement age cap from 63 to 65 and clarified that the reemployment timeline must be in compliance with Florida law.

Article 19: Leaves

  • Strikes “%” in “.5%” to reflect correctly the early sick-leave buyout calculation.

Additionally, eligible faculty will also receive a cost-of-living increase in March 2019, a 1% increase in August 2018 for Associate Professors and above who previously received an Associate promotion increase of 9% or less at UWF, and a $1,000 increase for eligible non-tenure-track faculty in August 2018. These items were negotiated and ratified in previous contracts and remain unchanged.

All other contract articles are “Status Quo.”

Ratification will take place on Monday, June 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Bld 22, University Commons (area in front of Commons Auditorium).

All members of the faculty bargaining unit are eligible to vote regardless of union membership.

Copies of the “Reopener” contract changes are available online at http://uffuwf.org.

For more information about the ratification vote, to review the agreed-upon contract, and to learn more about your UFF-UWF chapter, please consult the following documents.  Underlined language in the article represents proposed new language and strike-through language represents language that is proposed to be struck.
